Emotional Intelligence for Leaders of Influence

Kia Ora All!

How has your week been? I hope that it was NOTHING like the weather here in Aotearoa, New Zealand! It's been the classic spring, but on speed - That is below 10 one day, 25 degrees the next... Holy!!

Speaking of which, those fluctuations of temperature are much like what we can experience in our emotions: Emotions ARE like the weather - sometimes unpredictable, definitely ever-changing, fluid and in the moment.

As Conscious Leaders, you no doubt are highly attuned to your emotions: You're aware of how you are and how others are feeling.

This is an important trait to develop as a Conscious Leader, because with this comes your ability to empathise and deeply connect with those you lead.

Equally it's important to work on your own "emotional intelligence". Emotional intelligence is just a fancy way of saying: Being able to manage your emotions in a healthy way.

Emotional intelligence is first and foremost about taking care of yourself: Understanding your emotions, your triggers and having practices that help you to express them in ways that empower both you and those around you.

It is secondly about taking care of your team, your clients and others that orbit you and your business: Understanding that the way you express your emotions (or not) has an effect, good or bad, on the culture that you create in and around your business.

Knowing this, it is then essential as Conscious Leaders to understand, work on and create smart ways for us to express our emotions.

Not only does this help us to be more in tune and respectful of our self and our own feelings, but it also helps us to be more in tune and respectful of the feelings of others.

Our job as a Conscious Leader is to create an emotionally stable environment, where all is welcomed AND importantly, all emotions are managed in a respectful and compassionate manner.

And this environment is created BY US:

As we model, emotional stability and healthy emotional expression, we encourage and teach others by example, of how to do this.

We are moving into a world of business, where emotions - your heart - is just as important as your head. We are moving into a world of business, where logic and cold communication, is no longer sufficient to be a leader.

The shift is towards a leadership paradigm, where everyone is treated as a FULL human being:

  • Not just a cog in the wheel
  • Not just another paying clientBut a human being with emotions, with spirit, with heart.

This kind of heart-to-heart connection, is what creates clear, communication, loyalty and trust in your team and your clients.

(If there was one thing that I know I've been amazing at in my entrepreneurial journey, it's being able to gain that trust and loyalty with my clients. I have some, who because of that, have continued to work with me, year after year!)

The thing with emotions, is that although they are fickle, fleeting and sometimes unpredictable, you don't have to be!

With my clients, we work on going deeper than those surface layer emotions, to find stability in the deeper, inner well of our being.

  • To some they call this spirit.
  • Others call this God.
  • Others call this "their team", or Universal Energy or Source.
  • For some it is a (their) religion
  • For others it's not a religion but a knowing.

The point is this: It doesn't matter what you call "It" or how you relate with "It".

"It" is available to everyone - A stable, place that is beyond your human emotions, and provides a calm, peaceful and joyful state that you are able to call on, in any moment. This of course, takes practice, but know that this is accessible to everyone including you!

So to you, I hope that you are moving through life and business with more ease, stability, peace and harmony.

Because that is more of what we need in this world!
